NOTES ON JBL CADP2
==================

This document is intended to contain notes about CADP2 that have
not been included in the printed documentation. This provides a
means of distributing last-minute information about CADP2.

BUGS & LIMITATIONS
==================

JBL is pleased to offer CADP2 to knowledgeable sound system
designers. CADP2's development is an ongoing process, involving
improvements as well as elimination of the inevitable bugs which,
by Murphy's Law, surface only after the software has been placed
in the hands of users.

Testers on JBL's staff and in the field have relayed a great deal
of valuable feedback, and most of the bugs they have uncovered
have been repaired. However, there are some remaining problems
which are being addressed but are not so serious as to require
delaying CADP2's availability. Licensed users will receive updated
releases at no charge as soon as they are prepared.

For information on the changes made in Version 1.1 from previous
CADP2 releases, see "What's New in CADP2 V1.1" in the CADP2 manual
and the similar text file "whatsnew.txt" placed in the \CADP2
directory during the installation procedure.

The following notes cover the known limits in Version 1.14 as of
this writing. Reports of any problems encountered by users are
welcomed.

Articulation Index
------------------
Since no crossover or device bandwidth adjustment is included in
the program at present (or most other programs), AI calculations
may be in error for devices other than full bandwidth devices
(e.g. JBL 4612). Without this control feature, a bass cabinet and
a horn device could both unintentionally operate in the same frequency
band. The workaround is to switch devices on and off as needed.

Paint
-----
Small black spots sometimes appear along the edges of planes
during field paint calculations. The workaround is to
adjust the calculation resolution in any of the direct or
reverberant level setup windows to minimize the problem.

Gray Scale Printouts
--------------------
CADP2 translates the red to blue colors in the QuadView displays
into reasonably faithful light to dark gray renderings on
PostScript-equipped printers. However, results using some other
Windows printer drivers may not have good correlation in
intensity, i.e. the red to blue range may not correspond to a
linear range of grays. These problems are inherent with the printer
drivers--they do not perform adequate gray scale translations from
color images.

As stated in the manual, if these problems are encountered, use
Options|Display (alt, o, d) to change the screen display to Gray
Scale or B/W Dither prior to printing.

RT-60 Report
------------
Printing of RT-60 results is not yet implemented.

Maximum Power
-------------
The maximum power value for a device is not checked and it is
possible to exceed the device's maximum electrical input. Care
should be taken to complete a design within the device's power
rating.

Layer Protection
----------------
The Lock option in the Layers window is disabled.

Group and Cluster Locking
-------------------------
While device aiming points can be locked so that the point where
the aiming ray emanating from that device intersects a plane remains
fixed when the device is moved, the mechanism for locking groups and
clusters is not functional. Additionally, the mechanism for fixing
devices, groups and clusters is not functional at this time. If an
group or cluster is to be moved without changing its aiming, lock
each of the devices contained within the group or cluster.

32-Bit Disk Access under Windows v3.1
-------------------------------------
There may be a problem with performing calculations under
Windows 3.1 when 32-Bit Disk Access is turned on for some hardware
platforms. In these cases, device files are not loaded correctly,
causing incorrect answers to be computed. Therefore, we recommend
that you run with 32-Bit Disk Access turned off. This is apparently
a bug in Windows and, thus, cannot be resolved in CADP2.

This setting can be controlled from the Windows Control Panel's
'386 Enhanced' item. To turn this option off, select
'386 Enhanced', and then the 'Virtual Memory' button. Selecting
the 'Change...' button in the Virtual Memory window will show the
Virtual Memory settings; at the bottom of the screen you will
find a checkbox labeled 'Use 32-Bit Disk Access'. Make sure that
this setting is off.

Absorption Material Names
-------------------------
The names of some absorption materials do not fit in the space
allocated and appear truncated. This has no effect on program
performance or accuracy.
